Agoura Hills is a beautiful city with fantastic weather in western Los Angeles County that is bordered to the north by Ventura County. After the Chumash Native Americans first settled there about 10,000 years ago, it became known as "Picture City" in the 1920s due to Paramount Pictures filming several productions at their Paramount Ranch located within the town’s borders.
In order for residents to have a post office to call their own, they were told to select a one-word name for their town. Well, they opted to choose the shortest name offered, which ended up being a misspelling of the last name of Pierre Agoure, who was a French immigrant and local Basque man who originally settled into the area in 1871 to pursue his dreams of becoming a Mexican rancher.
The 1980s was a time for rapid growth and development in Agoura Hills. The residents voted in favor of cityhood, hence making Agoura Hills the 83rd city in Los Angeles County. Land became subdivided into various housing tracts, which we know today as Fountainwood, Morrison Ranch, Hillrise, Lake Lindero, and many others. Since its development, thousands of people - about 20,472 to be more specific, per the 2018 census - have flocked in and proudly call this scenic city their home.
Agoura Hills is truly a unique suburban community that offers hiking and biking trails, parks, great restaurants, shopping centers, and is conveniently located nearby freeways and Malibu Canyon, putting your toes in the sand within a quick 15-20 minute drive to PCH.

If a rural countryside home with the convenience of suburbia speaks to you, then Old Agoura is your answer. Tucked away in the foothills of Chesebro National Park, Old Agoura is only 10 minutes from Malibu Beaches and close to the 101 freeway, yet truly seems "away from it all." It is a true family friendly town solely filled with custom and equestrian zoned homes, beautiful parks, a United States Pony Club of America, and community events. There are no Homeowners' Association dues, but rather a yearly suggested contribution of $25 for the neighborhood BBQ and a few other events.
Old Agoura proudly maintains a legal fund to help prevent over-development. Maintaining open space and preserving the natural beauty is of utmost importance to the residents who are protective of their spacious lifestyle. Peace, quiet, and natural beauty abounds, and those that reside within its borders intend to keep it that way.
